A dialysis centre for Batu Maung

THE Penang Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society will build a third dialysis centre in the state.

The five-storey centre will be built on a 0.2ha plot on Jalan Permatang Damar Laut in Batu Maung to cater to needy patients from the area.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2013 and be completed in 2015, said society chairman Ooi Beng Soon.

He said kidney patients from Batu Maung now had to spend up to RM50 to travel by taxi to and from the society’s present dialysis centres on Jalan Abdullah Munshi and Jalan Hamilton.

He said there were plans for the new centre, to be named the Fo Yi Medicare Centre, to cater to stroke and cancer patients as well.

Ooi said the society was raising funds for the new centre which will cost RM7.2mil, inclusive of the RM2.2mil cost of the land.

He said that the public could buy bricks at RM20 each for the project.

“Those who donate RM3,000 and above can have their names engraved in plaque at the centre,” he added.

Ooi said the society would also hold a vegetarian food fair at the Penang International Sports Arena on Sept 18 to raise funds for the project.

“Tickets can be purchased at our centres on Jalan Abdullah Munshi and Jalan Hamilton,” he told a press conference yesterday.
